About Kaos Beauty Klinik: When he's not writing, novelist and award-winning short story writer, Richard Kadrey, explores wordless art as Kaos Beauty Klinik. Kadrey's graphic art consists of dramatic, primarily fetishistic imagery created through digital photography using a technique he's dubbed "Dark Light." This shooting style is a unique and personal variation on the old photographic process of "painting with light," meaning shooting long exposures in near total darkness with the subject illuminated by a single hand-held light source. Kadrey uses a variety of lights to generate different effects, everything from expensive LED spots to cheap plastic hardware store flashlights. His work explores dark areas of desire and obsession. His main influences are contemporary photographers such as Joel Peter Witkin and Chas Ray Krider, and the Surrealist painters, particularly Max Ernst and Paul Delvaux. |
